Practical voter guide
Clear steps for common voter tasks
Find the official voter services you need, then explore election information with sources you can check.
This is an independent civic information project. It is not an official Election Commission of India or government website.
Register
- Register as a new voter using Form 6
Check whether Form 6 is the right application, prepare the supporting documents, submit it, and keep the acknowledgement for follow-up.
- Register as an overseas elector with Form 6A
Check ECI’s current overseas-elector conditions and use Form 6A through the official service.
Fix or move
- Check your name in the electoral roll
Use the Election Commission’s search, confirm that the result is yours, and find the right next step if your record is missing or incorrect.
- Correct or update your electoral-roll entry with Form 8
Use the ECI’s current Form 8 route for a correction, address shift, replacement EPIC, or a disability marking.
- Request a replacement for a lost or damaged EPIC
Use the official Form 8 replacement service and check the current instructions for lost or damaged cards.
- Download your digital voter ID (e-EPIC)
Use the Election Commission’s official e-EPIC download service and follow its current account checks.
- Request removal from the electoral roll with Form 7
Read the current Form 7 instructions before asking ECI to remove an entry for a listed reason.
- Find your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO)
Use official ECI voter services to find the right election office for a roll or application question.
Vote
- Find your polling booth and use the 1950 helpline
Look up the polling-station details attached to your roll entry and contact the ECI voter helpline if you need assistance.
- Check identity documents accepted at the polling station
Confirm your name on the roll first, then check the current ECI identity instructions for your election.
- What to expect at the polling station on voting day
A neutral walkthrough: check the roll and booth, carry current identification, and follow polling staff.
- Accessibility support for voters with disabilities and older voters
Check ECI’s accessibility information and use official channels to ask what is arranged at your polling station.
