Who this is for

A voter checking their entry before an election or application.

Before you start

Have likely name spellings and constituency details ready. Search only in the official ECI service.

Key points

  • The electoral roll is the official list used for voting. ECI says a voter can vote only when their name appears in the relevant electoral roll.
  • A voter ID card or an old voter slip is not a substitute for checking the current roll entry. Search the official service and confirm the result belongs to you.

What to prepare

  • Have your EPIC (voter ID) number available if you want to search by number.
  • If you use a details-based search, enter the information the official portal asks for and select the correct state. The portal may ask for name and relative or location details.
  • Do not send your EPIC number or address to India Verdict. The search happens on the official ECI service.

Steps

  1. Open the official Electoral Search service from ECI. Check that the address is electoralsearch.eci.gov.in before entering personal details.
  2. Choose an available search method, such as EPIC number or elector details, and enter the requested information carefully.
  3. Review the returned name and constituency details to make sure the result is yours. Note the displayed polling information if you need it.
  4. If the first search has no match, check the state and spelling, then try the other official search method. You can also consult the ECI portal or contact the local ERO/BLO.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming that possession of an EPIC card alone confirms a current roll entry. ECI says the name must appear in the roll.
  • Searching the wrong state or using a spelling that differs from the entry.
  • Treating an old electoral-roll PDF, an old voter slip, or a third-party search result as the current official record.
  • Submitting Form 6 immediately without checking the existing record. If you already have an entry that needs correction or shifting, check the Form 8 process.

Short answers

Does an EPIC card by itself confirm that my name is on the current roll?

No. ECI says you can vote only if your name appears in the electoral roll. Check the current official search result.

What should I do if the search returns no result?

Check the spelling and state, try another official search method, and ask the ERO/BLO or ECI voter helpline for help. If you are a new voter, check whether Form 6 applies.

Can this website search the roll for me?

No. This site does not collect voter details or connect to the roll. Use the official ECI search link below.

If something goes wrong

  • If you find a result but some details are wrong, use the official Form 8 service for correction or shifting and follow its current instructions.
  • If you believe you should be enrolled but cannot find a record, contact the ERO/BLO or call the voter helpline at 1950. ECI’s FAQ says to add your area STD code before dialling.
  • After submitting a correction or new-registration request, retain the acknowledgement and check the application status. Search the roll again after the authority updates the record.
