Who this is for

First-time voters and anyone who wants a simple checklist for polling day.

Before you start

Check that your name is on the electoral roll, note your assigned polling station, and read the election-specific timing and identity instructions.

Key points

  • ECI states that only a voter whose name appears on the electoral roll can vote. A voter should confirm the correct polling station using official information.
  • Polling arrangements, timings, and accepted identity documents must be checked in the current election notice.

What to prepare

  • A recognized identity document from the current ECI election notice.
  • Your polling-station details; a voter slip may help locate the booth but is not stand-alone ID according to ECI’s general FAQ.

Steps

  1. Before leaving, search the official roll, confirm your polling station and read the current election notice.
  2. At the venue, follow signs and staff directions. Ask for help if you need an accessible route or other facilitation.
  3. Present the identity document accepted for that election when asked. Polling staff check the elector against the roll and record attendance under the election procedure.
  4. Follow the instructions at the voting compartment and operate the voting unit as demonstrated. Keep your choice private.
  5. Before leaving, follow staff directions and report a procedural problem through the official channel.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Going to the polling station shown on an old slip without checking for an updated assignment.
  • Assuming the queue, opening hours, or ID rules from another election still apply.
  • Sharing your vote choice or allowing another person to direct it.

Short answers

Does having an EPIC mean I can vote at any booth?

No. Check your name and assigned polling station in the official roll services.

Where can I get help?

Ask polling officials at the station or use the ECI voter support route listed in current official information.

If something goes wrong

  • If your name is not found, ask the polling officials for the proper procedure and contact your ERO/BLO.
  • For an accessibility need, check the ECI Saksham information and contact the local election office before polling day.
  • For a complaint, use the official grievance route; do not post another voter’s personal information publicly.
