Who this is for
Any voter preparing what to carry to the polling station.
Before you start
Find your polling details and open the current ECI instructions for the specific election. Identity-document lists can be updated by an election notification.
Key points
- ECI says a person may vote only when their name appears on the electoral roll. Carrying an EPIC alone does not replace this check.
- ECI’s general voting FAQ says a photo voter slip is not accepted as a stand-alone identity document. For other accepted documents, check the current election-specific list rather than relying on an archived list.
What to prepare
- Your current electoral-roll or polling-station details.
- An identity document from the list in the latest ECI instruction for the election in your area.
Steps
- Search your name in the official electoral roll and check the assigned polling station.
- Open the ECI notice or voter information for the election and read the current identity-document list.
- Carry the document in the format the notice accepts. Keep the polling details available, but do not treat a voter slip alone as identity proof.
- At the polling station, follow the staff’s identity-check instructions. If your name is missing, ask the official staff for the correct support route.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming an EPIC card guarantees that the name is on the current roll.
- Using a photo voter slip as the only identity proof.
- Relying on a list from a previous election without checking the current notice.
Short answers
Is the voter slip enough by itself?
ECI’s general How to Vote page says no. Check the current notice for a recognized identity document.
Can I use any government photo ID?
Do not assume that. Use a document named in the latest ECI instruction for that election.
If something goes wrong
- If the official list is unclear, contact the ERO/BLO or use the voter support contact shown by ECI.
- If your name does not appear, confirm spelling and constituency in the official roll search and seek election-office help.
- Do not share an image of your identity document with this site.
